Seed isn’t cheap. For many farmers growing canola, it’s one of the biggest input costs each season. The challenge is finding ways to lower those costs without hurting your stand or your yield potential.
The good news is that with more accurate seed placement, many farmers are discovering they can reduce seeding rates and still maintain strong stands.
That’s where the RRV Canola Seed Disk comes in.
Why Seed Placement Matters
When planting small seeds like canola, spacing and singulation make a big difference. If seeds aren’t placed evenly, you can end up with skips and doubles across the row.
That creates problems like:
- Plants competing for moisture and nutrients
- Uneven emergence across the field
- Poor stand uniformity
All of that can reduce yield potential before the crop even gets established.
Good seed placement helps every plant get the same opportunity to grow, which leads to stronger, more uniform stands.
Built for Small Seeds
The RRV Canola Disk was designed by two Manitoba farmers who wanted a better way to plant canola using a planter instead of a drill.
After experimenting with existing disks, they realized small seeds needed something different. The result was a 90-cell seed disk designed specifically for crops like canola and sesame.
Because the disk has twice as many cells as a typical 45-cell disk, it turns slower while still delivering the high seeding rates required for small seeds. That allows farmers to plant accurately while maintaining good ground speed.
To help maintain consistent seed flow, the system also uses a mechanical knock-out wheel. This feature pushes seeds through the cells and clears debris, helping prevent skips and plugging during planting.
Lower Seeding Rates, Stronger Stands
When seed spacing is consistent, farmers often find they can reduce seeding rates while still achieving strong stands.
With improved singulation and seed placement, many growers report germination rates of 90% or better, helping maximize every pound of seed going through the planter.
The result is simple: fewer wasted seeds and better stand establishment.
A Simple Way to Save on Seed
With seed costs continuing to rise, accurate metering is becoming more important than ever.
The RRV Canola Seed Disk helps farmers place seed more precisely, improve emergence, and potentially lower seeding rates without sacrificing performance.
