To people that never have experienced farm shows, we often tell them that you can never plan for everything and to expect the unexpected. This has never truer for the Iowa Power Farming Show of 2019.
Our team left Manitoba early as there was a winter storm watch within the next few days. This proved to be very beneficial for our team as we ran into problems with our trailer. With no help available, we called our friends at MudSmith who were able to swap trailers with us so we could continue on before the storm caught up with us.
The drive down was not eventful however the cold weather followed us to Des Moines and the blizzard that we were trying to stay away from ended up hitting most of Iowa and Minnesota which had an effect on the number of people who attended the show this year.
The farmers who did brave the cold to attend the show came prepared to find ways to prolong their existing equipment which meant that the biggest hits of the show were Copperhead Closing Wheels, RK Products wear part solutions and the MudSmith Gauge Wheels.
Every year Jacob and Dixie Smith owners and inventors of the MudSmith Guage wheels come to this show and work the booth alongside us. It was very beneficial for growers to hear directly from Jacob on why they invented the spoked wheel and the different sizes of wheels that work best on different planter setups. It also helps that the Smiths run the Copperhead Closing wheels and Copperhead Concave Systems on their farms and that Jacob can clearly see the benefits of both products and what they have done for them on their farm in South Dakota.
Although attendance was down this year due to the cold and snow, our team enjoyed one of the best years we have had at the show.
