Grain loss monitoring has always been a high priority on our farm. The addition of the Bushel Plus system was originally planned so it could be done safer. We quickly fell in love with its improvement to safely review a sample, therefore we checked our samples more often.
The way the Bushel Plus system works with all its parts make it very easy to establish exactly how much we were throwing over. Found ourselves tweaking it to the point of saving an extra half a BPA, where before we would probably said “good enough” – no more excuses for operators!
First of all, it’s safe and easy to use for all crops. It comes provided with all the tools needed for the task from measurement, cleaning, calculating.
The real reason why we use it is because it measures loss behind the combine. We are constantly tweaking and trying to minimize combine loss and maximize profits. The BushelPlus accurately calculates loss so we know exactly what we are throwing out. With some tweaking we were able to bring our loss to under 1 bu/acre. We always thought we didn’t throw much out, and we didn’t. For example, in our canola fields we saved 1-3 bushels/acre which doesn’t seem like a lot but that’s anywhere from $11-33/acre! That’s huge! I’ve heard other farmers saving 7-8 bushels/acre just from using the BushelPlus. Well worth the product cost and the few minutes it takes to test harvest loss.
We like the unique features. With its portability, it can be used on multiple combines and the separator makes short work of separating the grain from the MOG (materials other than grain). We have tested and used the Bushel Plus system for the last couple seasons, it paid for itself many times over and saved us a lot of money.
Very accurate and easy to use. Combine losses varied from 0.4bu to 9bu/ac. The easiest way I have improved a farmers bottom line.
The BushelPlus system worked great with our older equipment. We were able to quickly and easily calculate losses, fine-tune our settings and quantify what our combine’s loss monitor is reading. It is easy to use across all crops, safe to use and so easy even my kids can do it!
-Agronomist and Farmer.
We bought this unit last year, and the first time we used it we used it on wheat and we saved 3 bushels an acre right away. If you do the math, that’s $72,000 on our whole farm.
